The first look at the islands from the plane left me breathless. The ocean was turquiose and the beaches full of life. But that was nothing compared to living the experience on land.
We landed at the Ecological Airport of Baltra before noon, where we were expected by our tour guide, a lovely man with a big smile that was carrying a sign with the name of our boat: ASTREA.
After meeting the rest of the group a bus took us to that beautiful coast we had seen on the plane. We got on a Zodiak that took us on board of the Astrea. After a very warm welcoming we were shown to our cabin. It has this beautiful view over the ocean! Besides it was equipped with air conditioning, very nice beds and a comfortable bathroom. I walked around the boat and was amazed by the comfort of the dining room, where we were also offered a tv, air conditioning, coffee and tea. The sundeck was also comfortable and the bar invited us to enjoy a few coctails in the evenings.
After the welcoming meeting we enjoyed an exquisite lunch also with the view over the ocean. The trip to Seymour at night was smooth and calm, perfect for relaxing before our first dive.
The briefing was just as I expected it, we were told everything we needed to know. The dive was calm and perfect for testing our equipment and a good appetizer to what the Galapagos ocean had to offer.
After a nice hot shower and a few snacks, dinner and cocktail hour were the perfect ending to our first day in paradise. The crew transmitted a great feeling of friendship and service during our time on board.
